Shoot 3

For shoot 3 we ended up filming in Ilkley instead of Leeds due to the poor weather conditions leaning that it was hard for us to get to Leeds so we had to make do with the locations that we already had which was Ilkley however we shot some good footage and managed to manipulate the film that we got and took to create.

On this shoot we gathered footage for the scenes of the park scenes and the town scenes for this we needed the main character to come and help us out however we had to change the character due to the original one not being able to help us out due to other commitments in school. The new character was the same sort of build and height so it worked out well however you can tell by the way the characters walk that it is a different.

Another problem which we came up against was the fact that we didn't have a tripod in this shoot so most of the shots were shaky but we have edified this footage well so it now looks like there isn't any shaky cam footage at all. Also another good point was that we managed to get a lot of footage which shows more variety in our work so it helped the continuity of the music video and achieves verisimilitude.

Digipak General Conventions

Oasis DigiPak
Digipak is a patented style of CD or DVD packaging, and is a registered trademark of AGI-Shorewood, an Atlas Holdings LLC company.

Looking at a few examples of the digipak the oasis one has 3 inner panels and a front and a back panel, this is a complicated type of digipak but is very achievable in what we want to do, However choosing the correct and appropriate images for these panels is key if the digipak is to do its job by promoting the CD
Conventional DigiPak

This DigiPak is the more conventional one where by it only has 2 inside panels and a front and back panel which has usually a picture on the front which is then either continued on the back or is of another view of the front picture an example of this is the Native Woodlands Digipak below where by the wooded area picture on the front continues onto the back

Common features in these 2 panel digipaks are the related images to the music video or one of the songs usually the main song or the most know song for that artist. Also another key common convention would be that inside is another picture which runs over both of the panels or just the left hand panel. Sometimes there is even a booklet or pull out sleeve which has the lyrics on it and a bit more information about the songs and the artists.

Also a common convention which you will usually see on the back of the digipak cover is a barcode which is for the sale of the digipak and this is seen on almost every cover. barcode is an optical machine-readable bit of data which is scanned by the varying the widths and spacings of the parallel lines.

Creative Arts Evening Viral Video

During this creative arts evening we decided to create a viral video for our music vid in doing this we would be able to gain a wider audience and therefore gain more feedback and views for our main video as a result. Also this viral video would help us with the research and planning for our main video.

How we went about doing this was that we had set up a green screen in one of our classrooms in school which was done with green card sheets. Then we had a camera set up so that the green screen was in the whole frame. We got lots of people from our school on the night to stand in front of the camera and dance to our track which was on some speakers in the back ground.

When all the footage was shot we then edited the footage into our viral video sequence which was done in final cut pro a programme which allows you to edit footage of anything. We added many effects where by we took pictures and added them into the background of the footage which made it look like the people were actually at the scenes on screen.

Here is our Viral Video:

Creative Arts Evening

Typical Green Screen

TBC

For our schools creative arts evening we have decided to put up a green screen and then create a scene for the public to try out and have a go and to look at what we are doing in class, and for our coursework. Also we feel that we can use some of this footage from the Creative Arts Evening to put into our own viral video if we get some footage which is relevant to our own track such as lip syncing of our song and some actions which could be highly influential to our tracks image

Editing Experiment2: 3D Rendering in After Effects

Here i am trying to learn how to turn a still 2D image into a 3D tracking/panning shot as if we filmed the video.

This is really useful as you can use any image and turn it into a video with a realistic feel of being there.

After watching the tutorial i have learnt that i need to use virtual cameras within the composition. By creating a Grid and camera tracking you can create this realistic effect.

By using curves, null objects and artificial lights we can turn any 3D image into a video. the only down side to this is that it will take around 20 minutes to make a 5-10 sec clip.

I have already used After Effects behind and used 3D cameras and objects within the composition so i will find this roughly straight forward.

We are thinking of implementing this with the old man inputted onto the image dancing, by filming him separate on a green screen.

Storm Queen Look Right Through (MK Remix) Our Track

Artist: Storm Queen (MK Remix)
Track: Look Right Through
Genre: House
Year: 2013
Director: Storm Queen and MK
Music Video:

This is our track of which we are using for the A2 coursework and we are taking some elements of this video into consideration for our own video. This video has many good elements however we feel that our idea can have a good link with the lyrics.

Shoot 2 (Park Scenes)

For our second shoot we went to the park to get some footage for scene 3 where by the character of the old man would be in the park enjoying his day whilst others, Eg the public walked past not taking any notice of him. We have yet to get feed back from the shot sequence which we have shot on this scene and we have just a few steps to edit before it is finished and due feedback

A couple of challenges we faced were the face that when we wanted some shots of public reactions, there were not people about to get some actual footage of this happening, Also another problem we faced was that when we took some footage of the sky and the clouds moving for a time lapse was that we got some shots of people in the camera which we could have done without, so in terms of editing, then we will have to get rid of this.

The Character of the shoot was Georges mate Harry and we feel that he is a good character to have for the shoot due to his head fitting the mask well and him having the old man clothes too so it works best for us that he will be the main character of the old man

This is some footage which we shot on the shoot to highlight some of the aspects which might need changing and worked well for us.

Shoot 1

Our first attempt to shoot the music video was in leeds on 25th Oct of which Me, Ben, Curtis, Harry and Patrick all attended to help shoot. However after getting into leeds and onto Briggate, we set up the cameras and left Paddy to o get changed. Unfortunately whilst Patrick was getting ready he ripped the masked slightly as it would not fit onto his head. This then ruined the day of the shoot as we had no one to be the Old Man Character. Here is an image of Ben preparing to film the shoot.

Idea 4

20103 Movie of Bad Grandpa
Our music video idea is starting at a care home where an old man wakes up and begins his day and sets off out of the care home with his hopping basket ad goes out into the world without a care on his mind he just wants to do his shopping where by along the way in various different locations such as leeds city centre and Ilkley town also the bus and train journeys to these places during his so called adventures during his adventures the song title look right through will happen as the people around town don't notice him as he has a difficult town experience. The old man towards the end of the music video ends up in a night club which then he comes out of himself and  shows a different side to an old man stereotype by having a mad time in the club whilst pulling out some buster moves also where everyone around him is giving him dirty looks and not really taking a liking to him then after that a time lapse happens where the old man is back at the care home at in the chair he woke up in at the start of the video which makes the viewers think that it was all a dream however a clue from the so called dream will be left on te chair as the old man gets up to start his eventful day.

Sub Focus (MK Remix) - Turn it Around

Track: Turn it Around
Artist: Sub Focus (MK Remix)
Year: 2013
Genre: House
Director:
Music Video:

1) The first point or convention would be the way the song or video follows a single person through a type of journey or a path which they go down to seek something, this is the narrative theory to a music video and we are looking to do suh thing for our own video so I feel that this is a good example to look at when taking into consideration what types of things to put into our own video

2) Another point is the use of the words linking into what is shown on the screen at that moment for example in this music video when the lyrics turn it around are sung then the main character on screen does actually turn around and this can also be of very much use to our music video too due to us having this in our ideas

3) And the final point on this music video that I have highlighted I the way in which a night club is used when the beat drops and the music changes which we also were thinking to do in our own music video due to this factor being a really common convention in house music videos

JK- You and I

Track: You and I
Artist: JK
Year:  1994
Genre: House
Director: Unknown
Music Video:

1) This video shows a concept or theory which was created by Laura Mulvey which was the Male Gaze theory where by it was said that the female body was objectified where by it was turned into an object just to attract a male audience for example in this video we see te main singer in it wearing a very revieling item of clothing and this is to attract a male audience.

2) Another convention seen in this video is the way the fast pace editing and the flashing cutting transitions inter cut with one another as this is a very effective way of changing the camera shot and the various different angles used to create a sense of realism and verisimilitude

3) The final point of this music video is the way the setting throughout the whole of the video stays the same and this is a way of subjecting the viewers to one setting and doesn't reviel too much about the song but it makes the character more of a main thing rather than the settin unless it is tied into the song title or lyrics

Eurogroove- Move your body

Track: Move your Body
Artist: Eurogroove
Year: Unknown
Genre: House
Director: Unknown
Music Video:

1) This music video works well with the way it uses the slow motion effect where by for some or most of the dancing scenes you are watching the performance however the slow motion effect has been added to add more emphasis onto the movement and body compositions during the dancing scenes

2) Secondly the way the music video is edited is so that at the parts of the song where the music and tempo of the song are fast and very sort of energetic then the editing of it is fast and very jumpy, compared to when it is slow and there are long drawn out shots and this is quite effective and we would be looking to send something like this in our production of music video

3) The final point of this music video is at the start of it you see the setting as a train station which is a bit of an obscure setting to start a music video of this genre in which is why it makes the video unique where by it grabs the viewers attention straight away which means that people will want to watch it til the end and we feel that we should do a similar thing in our production.

Lana Del Yay ft. Cedric Gervais (MK Remix) - SummerTime Sadness

Track: Summertime Sadness
Artist: Lana Del Yay ft. Cedric Gervais (MK Remix)
Year: 2013
Genre: House
Director:
Music Video:

The three main points and conventions which I have seen in this video that is a common factor in the music videos from the house genre are as followed.

1) The video has a range of different coloured lighting effects used throughout the entire video which enhances the verisimilitude of the production also it encourages the genre and the music to fit with the moving images in the background.

2) Also this visor has a wide range of performance and concept theories towards it where by not all of the video is performed based but when it is it works well with the lip syncing of the main character in this video and also when this isn't happening it shows a good way of adapting the video to make it more eye catching to the viewers

3) And finally this video includes many references to the words and lyrics which are being sung or said on screen which I feel has a a massive effect on how the readers and viewers see the video and it determines what the viewers preferred reading is and how it stands with them.

Green Screen Trial

Typical Green Screen
We did some basic shooting of the old man character with a green screen back ground so that we can use various editing techniques to achieve higher marks for the use of different editing styles. These are various pictures and the video of how we went about producing the green screen effected scene.

Our main influences from this are Old man Pranks by Sam Pepper and Bad Grandpa which is a new released movie in 2013 also we have decided to not take ideas from the film UP as it has no real relevance to our idea anymore.

Podcast Week 3

This week we have researched target audience about if the song works and with these we will gain audience feedback with a vodcast uploaded on that. And will help us with target audience research

Audience Research Vodcast 1

Audience Research

Primary Audience
Our primary audience is age 14 - 21 of a female and male gender. This is because the music genre and song is liked by this range of age and gender. This genre is becoming increasing popular and was widely listened to over the summer as most festivals included this type of music. We have chosen this audience to be our primary audience because we feel that we will get the most positive

GH Our Music Video Track

Look Right Through (MK Dub III) Edited Radio Friendly Version

We edited the original mix of the song to a radio friendly length suitable for the public to watch and listen to rather than a lengthly 6 minutes. We altered it down to 4:15, which will be more suitable to create a music video for, for an audience to watch without the narrative or visuals to be too tedious or lengthily. We used the software Audacity to edit the video shorter and used tools to loop and fade out the audio.

First i selected the area i wanted to remove then deleted the selection.

I then selected the area i wanted looping, and copied it.

After, i clicked at the end of the song and pasted the area i selected several times.

After i then selected the last 15 seconds of the song and used an effect called fade out. This slowly ended the song smoothly.

Finally i then saved the song as an MP3. This new edited version is now radio friendly as the length is just right.

GH Characters Costume and Make Up Vodcast

Characters, Costume and Makeup

In our music video idea we will be including several characters. However the main character included in the music video of whom will be in the majority of all shots will be the Old Man character. This will be played by Patrick Pointon using the disguise. The disguise will consist of a mask, glasses, flat cap, black gloves, chords (trousers), white creamy shirt, blazer, glasses, shoes and a walking stick. All of this will create verisimilitude and crete a realistic looking character for the music video. This character and the others will not be needing to use makeup as there is no other fancy dress to be worn.

The other characters in the video will be our friends at the party of which we will be filming. This will be perfect as the peoples costumes will create verisimilitude of a party to suit the music genre. The last people in the video will be the audience and crowd of whom we will be filming there reactions to the old man. These play a key part in the video as it will create a sense of realism and prank styled feel to the video.

GH/BB Researching a Target Audience

Finding A Target Audience (Primary and Secondary)

To gain research for our primary and secondary audiences we are going to devise a series of questions to ask random students and teachers within our school to find a target audience for our music video. This will help us create a much better quality video as we can target a specific age range.

First we are going to play our track to the audience and then ask them the series of questions below.
  • Do you own or stream this track (original)
  • Do you own or stream tracks by this artist (MK) ?
  • If not, would you consider buying or streaming this track or anything by this act?
  • Can you name any other tracks by this artist?
  • What would you expect to see in one of there videos?
  • Who would you consider to be the target audience for this act?
  • Do you like the House/Deep House genre?
  • Do you think this genre of music will appeal to a large audience?
  • Do you think this genre of music is more popular between 14 - 25 year olds or 25+?
Our idea is of an Old Man walking around town struggling whilst everyone looks right through him (like the title). However when the music drops the old man chucks away his stick and starts dancing. We will be filming peoples reactions as this wont be staged and will be included in the video. We will include special effects on the video in certain parts to suit the genre of music.

  • Do you think this idea is appropriate for the target audience of 14 - 25 year olds, if not.. why not?
  • What did you think works best with our idea?
  • What do you think would work best with our idea?
  • Is there anything you might change or add to improve this idea?
  • Are there any videos or other media which you could suggest to look at for further ideas?
  • If you don't think it is appropriate for our target audience who would you suggest our target audience is, and why?
  • Any thoughts on how we could promote our video via social media e.g Facebook or twitter?
Ben will be asking the questions period 4 on 23rd Oct then George will be editing the video period 5.

Locations and Vodcast

The locations which we have decided to shoot our A2 music video vary from however we might not decide to use all the footage used and shot at all of these locations and only use some, these are;

  • Ilkley Town
  • Leeds Town (Briggate)
  • Beat Bar (Leeds)
  • Ilkley Park
  • Care Home
  • Various Shops around town
  • Train Station
  • Leeds Briggate
  • Leeds Victoria Quarter
As mentioned before not all of these locations will necessarily be shot due to it being too confusing to the audience, However we need to have enough shots of different locations to achieve a sense of verisimilitude which will help our media production look better. We feel that the locations we have chosen to shoot at will look good if edited well. These locations will look good due to it being in the real life setting of a town and a park and a elderly peoples care home which we have acsess too so that again will achieve more verisimilitude
