House Eg4,5,6,7,8

TRACK: Toulouse
Year: 2012
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-21

Music Video:

1) The use of maks in this video makes it stand out to the audience and catches theyre eye and will make them remember the video and this is a way of creating an image for the song which is good
2) The use of the street location means that the audience can relate to the settings which it has been shot in so it makes it more appealing to the viewers
3) How the narrative is done makes the video a touch unbeliveable however i feel that the way it has been shot does look good when watching it

ACT: Kid Cudi
TRACK: Day N' Nite
Year: 2012
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-21

1) The pace of the song and how it has been edited works well with the amount of shots used to signify what is happening on screen
2) The use of different locations works well and again people can relate to them as they are common public places to go to
3) The Star performer being the artist in this case is the main figure throughout the whole music vidoe and is shown in every single shot which makes the viewers who are big fans want to watch it again and again

TRACK: Kush
Year: 2010
Director:
Genre: Hip Hop
Main Audience: 15-27

1) The pace of this song really works with the shot variation and how it is slow to represent the songs tune and pace
2) The dress and costume of which the characters are in goes well with the dull dark backgrounds of the setting and locations which enhance the reading
3) The locations and settings go really well with the laid back tune and signifies the music video and shot selection were done very carefully

ACT:  Storm Queen (MK Remix)
TRACK: Look Right Through
Year: 2012
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-24

1) The Narrative of the music video works well with a type of romantic out look to is and it shows a different side to the genre
2) The Costumes chosen for the main character are good in terms of grabbing the readers attention however it doesnt really fit well with the song and this has got to be taken into consideration when using costumes
3) The Locations used worked well with the hotel signifing either holiday break or a sort of one night stand type thing at the start and i feel as the video progresses it works well

ACT:  Lana Del Ray (Cedric Gervais Remix)
TRACK: Summertime Sadness
Year: 2013
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 13-21

1) The Editing right the way through the video enhances the music and goes well with it so it was done with care to link in with the track
2) Titles at the start are a good idea and i feel that in this music video they go well over the top of the music at the start
3) Concept and Performance both play parts in this video where by lana del ray is pictured ins ome scenes then she is lip syncing and for the other scenes a narrative is going on which i think is very useful for a music video to have both or even all 3

House Eg3 No Beef- Steve Aoki

TRACK: No Beef
Year: 2011
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-21
Music Video:

 Star Performer
In this music video the whole thing is situated around the two artists of the music video and this makes the video more appealing where by you get to see a small insight into the making and creation of this music video also you get to see into the life a little bit of the artists and the amount of fun which goes with it
Audience
Also the audience in this video plays a huge part where by it gives the music video a better out look when people see that there are masses and masses of fans enjoying themselfs at one of their concerts to as well as this video having some concept to it it also has some performance with it aswell.

Performance
This video has both concept and performance related structures where by you get to see the making of it and the behind the scenes look and you also get to see some of the gigs or performances that have been done by the artists when performing this song live to an audience

Mise En Scene
In this music video it is all about mise en scene as they have a green screen for part of it and it is only the green screen at one point which enhances the verisimilitude of the music video and fro example this shot shows the fun they have with the fire crackers also being part of the mise en scene

Location
Location also playes a huge part in this music video where by they have shot it in about 6 different locations not just behind a green screen as shown here they also did it in a supermarket and a behind the sets of a gig however if you are looking to do it in public places you would have to as for permission

House Eg2 Animals- Martin Garrix

ACT: Animals
TARCK: Martin Garrix
Year: 2013
Director:
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-21

Titles
in this music video it starts with titles of what the song is and who it is by which i think works well with the non diagetic sound of the music video behing it and it also creats a starting atmosphere which is good to start off a muci video

Mise En Scene
in the music video there are various shots where the mise en scene enhances and creates and sets up a prefererd reading for the viewers which is good becuase then the viewers can get a grip of whats going on when watching it i feel that mise en scene in music videos are key and should be used as much as possible

Shot Variation
For this genre shot variation is key due to the music being fast and having a quickly changing pace so shots have to be frequently changing so various different camrea angles and shots and locations need to be used which in this video they are which makes it good to watch and analyise and pick parts out to but into ideas for your own music video

Costume and Props
Costumes are used in this music video with the masks and hooded clothing which goes along with the lyrics and title of the song as all the characters are dressed up like animals i feel this was a huge success for this music video as it looks very good and puts alot of things right when shooting this. i would really take this into consideration when thinking about costumes for a music video

Editing
The editing of this music video was very good and the way the characters would appear in different locations in one shot was good also with the lighting of some of the shots was good to see with the dull dark ones with only some added light gave it that look of a party or a club and it was kind of spooky to watch which goes along with the animals theme again

House Eg1 Pursuit of Happiness- Kid Kudi

ACT: Kid Cudi
TRACK: Pursuit of Happiness
Year: 2010
Director: Brody Baker
Genre: House
Main Audience: 15-21

Star Performer
In this music video the star performer is Kid Cudi and he is usually the main figure on the screen throughout the music video this is important due to it being appealing to the audience, Also when he is on screen he looks directly at the camrea, this is to achive verisimilitude and a sense of realism when watching the music video it also shows his power and role within the music video

Mise En Scene
The mise en scene in the music video plays a key part when looking at what is happening and denoting whats going on in and around the main shots for example this shot of the champagne bottle signifies a celebration or a party type event which is common with this genre and with this style of music

Editing
Teh editing in this video has a huge effect on how the audience views the music video where by it is totally slowed down when the main singer is on screen and is singing it gives it an effect where by you see him as being powerful and a lot more important than the rest of the characters and people on the screen as he is centre framed too aldo the editing when the lights are flashed and dimmed which is sown in this screen shot here it gives it a more glamarous effect

Lip Syncing
In this music video there is alot of lip syncing and this proves vital when achiving a sense of realism, it also makes the music video look better in my opinion due to it not just all being a narrative aproach when shooting the music video. For example this screen shot shows the singers in a close up which adds effect to show their status in the video.

Shot Framing
Shot framing is key when shooting a music video and in this video the shot framing works well and this if shown her in this picure and it shows the main and key elements of the video here by this shot glass being centre frame it works well and it draws the viewers attention to it so that it makes it more iconic for the video

Music Video:

1) Character Representation in this has been changed where by the male characters in this music video are now dressed up as women to enhance the title of the song and showing the problems at the time of release of this song
2) Main focus on the Star Treatment where by the main lead singer is the band member who is in the frame and shots the most and is centre frame showing his importance
3) The lyrics are lip synced in this video which enhances the realism and verisimilitude of the performance which is on the screen

TRACK: Bad Touch
Year: 1999
Director: God Lives Underwater, KMFDM and Eiffel 65.
Genre: Dance Pop
Main Audience: 17-25
Music Video:

1) Iconic monkey costumes which go with the theme and lyrics of the song to surggest the Discovery Channel which is an animal or nature channel on TV which is good because it catches the eyes of the viewers and the audience
2) Also with the monkey theme it shows the monkeys locking up the humans which is an archetype of what the monkeys normally have done to them and have them in cages which works well because it is out of the ordinary
3) It also shows the characters causing trouble which is what usually happens with monkeys and teenagers in the modern day so it is reflective in both parts

ACT: Blondie
TRACK:  Call Me
Year: 1980
Director: Giorgio Moroder
Main Audience: Genre: New Wave
Music Video:

1) This Video is more of a performance based video which is based on and behind the scenes of the stage in which the main character or artist is shown she is centre framed and done so to show her significance
2) However the song does provide some narrative which fits in well with the lyrics as it shows some shots of people calling one another in aid of the title of the song
3) This Video is an older music video however the effects of the older camera footage proves to work quite well with the chosen back grounds and setting of which have also been chosen for the music video

ACT:  Wings
TRACK:  Band on the Run
Year:  1974
Director: Paul McCartney
Genre: Rock
Main Audience: 45-60
Music Video:

1) The slow pace of the song at the start is good to get into the music video this is also enhanced by the way the song changes tempo with the images on screen
2) As the song is older the video quality is not as good as music videos nowadays however the editing of this video makes it good to watch as it goes with the hill billy type music
3) The way the songs chorus and rest of the verses inter change with the way the music and visuals change work really well and make the song a good one to look at when picking up on common conventions

ACT:  REM
TRACK:  The Great Beyond
Year: 1999
Director: Pat McCarthy
Genre: Alternative Rock
Main Audience: 20-45
Music Video:

1) Good uses of the lip syncing toward the camera and the main lead singer is the key figure which appears in the shits the most and when he does he looks into the camera which achieves a sense of verisimilitude
2) The Editing of the whole music video works well with the slow pace of the song and when the music does eventually change the editing of the visuals then do change with it  to make it look better and goes with the song
3) Also at the start when the camera zooms in on the corner shop this was quite effective however the camera looks to be on tracks or it looks to be a cartoon like visual on how it is done

Eg5 Avicii- You Make Me

ACT:   Avicii
TRACK:  You Make Me
Year:  2013
Director: Salem Al Fakir
Genre: House
Main Audience: Youths and Teenagers
Music Video:

Performance Style
As this song is brand new this week the official video for this song has not been released yet however this lyric video has been named the official video by the artist for now. This video is just a lyric video so therefore it doesn't really have a style other than being lots of random shots of various colour enhanced settings such as the sea and the city centres. However i feel this can still be quite effective due to its randomness which an sometimes provide positives which has been done before in various successful music videos

Pace and Variation of Pace
In this video there is alot of variation of pace from the chorus to the intro to the middle sections where by they are all different paces of shot types and variety, this is a good way of showing the pace even when the music isnt on and its just the visuals and it is also a good indicator of how the music makes you feel at certain times for example when the chorus comes on its a busy city centre and when the music slows down it becomes waves and clouds.

Shot Variety
For this Video there isnt a great range of shot variety which hinders the amount of success and praise it will get from audiences so there isnt alot that you can say about shot variety however the shots it does have are used quite regularly which can enhance some of the positives about the music video

Relationship between visuals and lyrics
The lyrics and the visuals in this music video are somewhat the same thing due to the lyrics being shown on the screen to be part of the main feature if not being the main feature so it is hard to define and split the two down into analysing them individually however they are both used to create one thing which doesnt always mean its a bad thing.

Eg3 50 Cent- In Da Club

Artist: 50 Cent
Track: In Da Club
Year: 2003
Genre: RNB Rap
Producer: Dr. Dre

Narrative

At the start of this video we see what looks to be a barron wasteland a sort of military base site then across the screen comes come text which indicates the army feel to the song and the video. At this point in the video we see various different cut away shots to what looks like doctors. Then after that we see the recovering rapper building muscular strength in the gym whilst lip syncing which works well for the video

Mise en Scene and Setting
As the video goes on it shows the sort of military base to be a hospital in the middle of a desert which fits in well with creating a sense of mystery to the music video and then it reveals to be the rapper in the theatre operating room on the table which also adds to the mystery

Various Shots
The shots after this are the ones which go best with the title of the song and work best due to the guys walking into what looks to be a club somewhere which seems to be a mad party scene which is specifically fit to the beat and timing of the music which works very well. Then after this we see various cut shots from the gym to the club scene and back and forth also we see some shots of girls dancing to the tune and are dancing in time to the beat which also makes it realistic and achive verisimilitude.

Sub-Culture
In this music video its supports a sub culture which is is shown as a gangster group which is associated alot with the genre of rap as it fits in well with the stereotypes of the images of the rappers. I feel that the sub cultures created for music videos are good and it shows diversity to society which can attract different audiences to find out about what variations there are out there

Eg2 Swedish House Mafia- Don't You Worry Child

ACT:  Don't You Worry Child
TARCK:  Swedish House Mafia (S.H.M)
Year: 2012
Director: John Martin and Max Kennedy
Genre: House
Main Audience: Youths and Tennagers
Music Video:

Narrative/Performance

The start of the video starts off with the news that the band have split up and goes into the background of the last ever show they are doing together this is a very effective way to do a music video as it has been done by many before, for example Paradise City by Gunz N' Roses did a similar thing, but what makes this video more unique is that it has a sort of narrative where by from my preferred reading i have picked up on that it is a type of journey through their whole career as musicians the narrative is continued through the live performances

Performance Style
The style which the artists have done is a performance based one which involves various different tours that the band have done which involves crowd and fans which are enjoying the concerts with various different editing techniques to enable the video to achieve more continuity as it goes on, I feel that this is a very effective way to draw audience and viewers to watch the music video due to it being so active and moving as it causes the viewers to want to re watch the video.

Notable Shots and Framing
Throughout the whole video there are many notable shots but the main one which strikes me as a viewer the most is the one of which is the three band members stood by the decks with their hands in the air to the crowd as it is shown a few times during the whole video. And the framing of this is that they are centre of the frame which shows their importance throughout the shot and for the duration of the music video. So this is the most notable shot for me.

Audience in the Video
For me the audience play a huge and key part in this music video as they make up about half of the footage used for the video. The audience used for it though are used well due to all of the expressions and emotions used are all positive and show the bands concerts and live performances in a good light which can only credit the band. The audience audio also creates an atmosphere to how huge they were and to wat sort of a scale the band were performing to, i feel that this has highly benefited this video by putting so much of the audience into it

Elements to link with my Idea
I think that the way the band have included the audience into the music video is a very good and useful tool so i feel that this would also benefit my music video, also adding a little narrative to the video will help it too and this would also be something that i will be adding into my music video

Eg1 TopLoader- Dancing in the Moonlight

ACT: TopLoader
TRACK: Dancing in the Moonlight
Year: 1972
Director:
Genre: Pop Rock
Main Audience: 17-30

Music Video:

Narative/Performance
The Narrative for this music video shows the band playing in a studio which looks to be in a house which gives the audience an idea that the video and music are a touch laid back, Also the performance is intercut with scenes of what looks to be a house party which shows the sort of life the rock stars live which shows intertextuality with some of the older performance music videos as ways of showing the viewers what life is like to be part of the band.

Relationship between visuals and lyrics
The lyrics are mostly sang with lip syncing going on where by when there isnt any singing the video cuts to the party scenes however when the lyrics are sung they are in time to the video which enhances the reality of the performance and the whole video, Also another thing to note is that when the video's chorus is sung of 'Dancing in the Moonlight' people on the screen at the time are either dancing in the house or under a moon light setting weather it be under a disco ball or under the moon light which has a good effect on the performance of the actual video itself as it provides more continuity

Location and Mise en Scene
The location for this music video is in a house with a music recording studio and in various different rooms within the house hold, for example bedrooms and the odd living room and balcony this adds a better effect to the video rather than having it all staged in one setting as we found out in our AS film opening due to it not being as effective as it could have been. The Mise en Scene for this video works really well due to the amount of lighting shot in the key frames which adds to the effect of the 'Moonlight' by this i mean for example the lights which are hanging from rooms and are situated in different places with the dimmed light of the background light.

Pace and Variation
The pace is fairly consistent throughout the music video where by the music fits with the shots on screen and as the song isnt a fast song its sort of a slow moving jazzy pop rock song which tends to not speed up or slow down however it does at the start where the intro ends it builds up into the main part of the song where the band are getting ready in the home made studio. But apart from that then the pace is fairly consistent.

Elements linked to my idea
This video has various elements of which i would like to take forward and put into a music video of my own due to its specific details which some i have already picked up on, These are the way the lyrics fit with some of the images on screen and are shown though different feelings and expressions on the characters faces on the video. Also the way things in the video are set out, the mise en scene plays a big part in most music videos today and this is one thing i would have to really consider when planning and producing my own music video
